In her book, βThe Vanishing Manβ, Laura Cummings explores the story of John Snare, a Victorian bookseller who stumbles across a picture in a house clearance sale that he believes to be a Velazquez painting. In this fascinating book, Cummings follows John Snareβs journey, exploring the mystery of the paintingβs authenticity and its eventual disappearance. She also draws upon her extensive knowledge of an personal connection to Velazquez and his work.
Join us for a lively discussion around Cummingsβ intriguing book, looking at examples of the Velazquezβ works to be found in The Prado and The National Gallery, London. You will then be invited to make a guided drawing of the royal princess, Infanta Margarita Tereza in a Blue Dress.
The session is aimed at anyone with a curiosity about art history and practice. No prior drawing experience is necessary and there is no obligation to have read the book prior to joining. Materials and a glass of something nice included.
