Mat-forming habit with masses of star-like, rosy-lavender flowers and deep green foliage that is sometimes evergreen. Attracts butterflies and other pollinators such as swallowtails, hummingbirds and hummingbird moths. The parent species is indigenous to rich deciduous woodlands, stream banks, open woods and shady rocky slops mostly in the Appalachian mountains. Blooms in spring when little else is flowering. Bright shade is best; tolerates some sun. Moist or average soil. Drought tolerant. Spreads 2 feet. Height: 8 inches. M R Gardens started these via vegetative cuttings from a plant originally from New Moon Nursery.
