Rob Neto's two-time award-winning debut thriller is finally here! Beyond the Grate was a story conceived not long after the disappearance of Ben McDaniel in 2010. Rob heard the rumors circulating about what might have happened to McDaniel and he created his own possibility.
Far inside a dark underwater cave someone placed a grate to keep divers out of the reaches beyond. But the grate doesn't keep everyone out. Joey Simmons had only recently gotten scuba certified. But he was already doing dives far more advanced than his skill level - cave diving, decompression diving, deep diving in the Gulf of Mexico in the middle of the night. Part of this was out of his own carelessness. Part of it was because he was being manipulated. Read what happens when Joey makes an unexpected discovery and naively tells someone he thinks he can trust, only to find himself in a position where he is forced to lie to his parents, lie to the police, and lie to the woman he has fallen in love with. All while also having to protect her from the same evil man that is controlling him.
Inspired by true events.
This book is a work of fiction. The characters, incidents, and dialogue are drawn from the authorβs imagination and are not to be construed as real. Any resemblance to actual events or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. While the idea for the story did come from the disappearance referenced above, that is the only similarity. This story is simply one in which the author creates a story based on his imagination of what could have happened. There are some snippets of fact embedded in the story, such as some of the information about Ponce de Leon, Morrison Spring, and St. Andrews State Park. These things are included simply to give the story more depth and reality. They are by no means implicated in any wrong doing in the disappearance of McDaniel.
